A TV series based on "The Legend of Zelda" video game franchise has reportedly been trying and failing to get off the ground for some time. Back in February, a report from the Wall Street Journal stated that a series would be aired on Netflix but this was denied almost immediately after the report was posted. Now, speculations continue to surface about a "Zelda" series making its way to the small screen. 

According to a report from Season Zero — which has since been retracted — a series is being developed, not for Netflix but for Amazon, with a pilot already moving forward with production. The report states that if the pilot is successful and the series is picked up, production will begin in August and shooting will take place in New York, Georgia, and Savannah. 

There were no details about the pilot but a report from Cinema Blend speculated that it would establish the premise of Princess Zelda and the Kingdom of Hyrule asking Link's help to fight the evil Ganon. According to the report, if the series moved forward, then it would neatly tie in with the release of the upcoming "The Legend of Zelda" game for the Nintendo Wii U. 

However, almost immediately after posting the report, Season Zero retracted the statement after finding out the series in question, titled "Zelda" at the time of writing, is actually about American novelist Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald. It will star Christina Ricci in the titular role but no further details regarding the biographical series has been released thus far. 

There is no "Legend of Zelda" series in development right now but it is interesting to note that Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the "Legend of Zelda" franchise and the "Mario" series, is said to have been directly inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald to use her name as the game's princess, so there is some sort of connection to be had there.
