Earlier reports claimed that South Korean smartphone giant Samsung was rumored to be working on a 4K display that would later be incorporated in to its upcoming flagship phablet, Galaxy Note 5. However, now, it appears the company is going to have another competitor in that particular department. Japanese tech firm Sharp, which is proficient in manufacturing IGZO screens and border-less smartphones, has officially stated that it is going to start mass production of the world's first 5.5 inch screen size that will render a display resolution measuring 3840 by 2160 pixels.

The display panel is expected to start production in early 2016, which only means that it will be incorporated in to smartphones later in the year. These displays will possess an impressive 806 pixels per inch density, which will be considered as overkill for mobile computing devices since 4K monitors and television sets are yet to popularize in the market. While content being viewed on smartphones possessing a 4K resolution will look extremely vibrant, three disadvantages of incorporating such a display will include assimilating a powerful 'system on a chip', since a mid-performing chipset will not be sufficient in rendering all those pixels on a small screen.

Secondly, Sharp will have to make sure that its devices sport a large battery pack since a 4K display on a smartphone or tablet is going to consume far more battery life than a 1440p one. Last but certainly not, the combination of the 4K display, high performing chipset and large battery pack will increase the overall costs of the smartphone, leaving only consumers with little to no financial constraints the window to purchase them. The large price tag will mean that remainder of the smartphone market will be kept out of the loop.

Consumers can expect that the very first displays sporting the ridiculously dense resolution to be rolled out in Q3 or Q4 2016.
