After fingerprint scanners, smartphone manufacturers will be preserving device security through the incorporation of Retinal Scanners. TCL, a Chinese company that is known for manufacturing televisions, has announced a smartphone that features a Retinal Scanner for the price of just $129. The handset, called 3S, also impresses in the hardware configuration segment, despite carrying a very affordable price tag.

Starting off, TCL 3S is powered by a Snapdragon 615, which is a mobile chipset targeted to the middle-smartphone markets. A 1080p display is resonated on the smartphone's 5 inch display, along with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of on-board storage that is most likely going to be expanded through a MicroSD card slot.

Since the handset has just been announced, TCL has not given any word on whether the device is going to be limited to Chinese markets, where affordable devices are gaining immense levels of popularity.

Coming back to the hardware specifications, the $129 smartphone also features an impressive 13 megapixel rear camera sensor that is supplemented by an 8 megapixel front camera sensor. The rear camera features an aperture of f/2.2, which should provide an edge in snapping highly focused images.

While details of which Wi-Fi adapter is present in the handset are currently unavailable, 3S surprisingly features a Cat 4 LTE modem, which has a maximum download limit of 150 Mbps and upload limit of 50 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 615 chipset might be the only disappointing component present in the handset. However, keeping in mind of the sub-$150 price tag, TCL 3S will definitely be able to sell a large amount of units, considering the fact that the device will be competing against price/performance products like Lenovo K3 Note and Meizu M1 Note, which feature sub-$200 price tags and deliver astounding amounts of processing power.

TCL is expected to make an announcement of 3S official in the coming months. Perhaps during this time, the company will also unveil its plans on whether or not it plans on bringing the smartphone to other markets as well.
